Preface: One of the core components in professional writing classes is to prepare students for both their academic and professional futures. As such, a major assignment was for students to seek out a career placement or internship of interest to them, and craft an application packet for that future position. The following lesson plan was given via online video tutorial with an accompanying Powerpoint, to guide students through this process.
* You'll find reflections for the first delivery of this lesson plan above. In terms of the second delivery this semester, we chose to just make the items available for students through the course website. The preceding reading materials were all the same as the previous semester. The feedback we received from students indicated that they appreciated having these teaching tools as a resource to refer to as they crafted their application packets. Many students earned exceptional grades for this assignment, presumably in part because they understood how to employ ethos/pathos/logos as appropriate for their audience and desired position. Additionally, this exercise set the stage for students to understand audience analysis, an essential component of constructing their final paper.
